Barbara Blackman has been crazy about quilts since childhood, after discovering them in friends’ Midwestern homes, even though her New York City family didn’t quilt. What began as curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong passion that has become part hobby, part business, and part obsession.
A Moda fabric designer for 30 years, Barbara is known for her reproduction prints, especially William Morris-inspired designs with an Arts & Crafts feel. She also shares her love of quilt history through her Civil War Quilts blog and exhibits, including her 2022 New England Quilt Museum show, Hospital Sketches. Barbara is the author of the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns and the companion program BlockBase+, long considered a go-to resource for quilt pattern research and drafting.
