In this class, Vida will guide students through basic sewing and bag-making skills while making the Carry A Smile bag by Zen Chic. This is a beginner-friendly project designed to help students learn how to follow a pattern, work with fabric, and build confidence at the machine.

  • 12 x 24 quilting ruler
  • Self-healing cutting mat
  • Fabric marking pen or pencil

A limited number of sewing machines are available for student use. Register early to reserve one.

Pattern and Materials

  • Carry A Smile pattern by Zen Chic, available in the shop
  • 1 1/4 yards main canvas or medium-weight linen suitable for bag making
  • 1 1/4 yards lining canvas or medium-weight linen suitable for bag making
  • 1/4 yard bag strapping
  • 8 x 31 lightweight fusible web
  • 50 wt thread to match fabrics

Fabrics pictured on the pattern are available in the shop

Recommended Tools

  • Personal iron
  • Wool ironing mat

Additional Information

Participants must be 15 years old or older.

This class is designed specifically for younger sewists who want to explore sewing in a practical, approachable way.
