If you notice most Gingham Quilts have a border with mis-matching fabrics. Join Karen New and make a Gingham Quilt with borders that make sense. Participants will focus on building strong foundational quilting skills while creating this lovely quilt.

This is a project sure to become your go-to pattern whenever you need to make a quilted gift and have only a short amount of time to complete it. It works wonderfully for a baby quilt, looks beautiful with holiday fabrics, shines with fall inspired prints and can easily be customized for countless occasions.

Karen New began quilting in 2002 and quickly fell in love with the creativity and design behind it. She is active in multiple quilting guilds across Arkansas and brings a steady, encouraging presence to every class she teaches. Her focus is simple. Help quilters enjoy the process and build confidence with every project.

Supply List

When selecting fabric for this project, please keep the following in mind:

You will  need a light, medium and dark fabric. To achieve the desired gingham effect, it’s important your light fabric is very light and your dark fabric noticeably darker than your medium fabric. Choosing fabrics with clear contrast will help the gingham pattern stand out beautifully.

Light Fabric:  1 yard

Medium Fabric: 2 yards

Dark Fabric: 1 ⅛ yards

Binding: ⅝ yards

Backing: 3 ½ yards

 

Please bring the following to class:

  • Sewing machine in good working order

  • Rotary cutter

  • Snips

  • Seam ripper

  • Iron

  • Personal pressing mat

  • Bobbins

  • Sewing machine needles

  • Thread

  • Pins

  • 6.5”x24” ruler or a 6”x24” ruler

  • Fabric

  • Pattern

  • Marking tool


Preparing for Class:

Please come to class with your fabric starched and pre-cut according to the following:

Light Fabric - (5)  5 ½” by WOF

Medium Fabric - (11)  5 ½” by WOF

Dark Fabric - (6) 5 ½” x WOF

All supplies are available in the shop if needed and don’t forget you receive 20% on additional class supplies. Participants should bring a sack lunch. Coffee, tea and water as well as snacks are provided during our classes. We will take a break for lunch and there are nearby options for lunch.
